Here comes the festive season again. Very very soon its Chinese New Year. From my sample size of 10, research extrpolates that it is a time where half of the people in the world look forward to it and half of the world find it boring. Why? To some its a time where they could catch up with their relatives again, some look forward to it because its a time to receive lotsa hongbaos or some look forward to it because they can gamble. Others find it a dread to do visitation, negotiate their way out of the jam in the most congested bridge in Singapore called the Causeway or some just hate springcleaning.

Well, no matter what reasons you like or do not like Chinese New Year, it is being celebrated all over the world by more than 1 billion chinese. Here's Chinese New Year from my perspective:

1) An Opportunity to Bring Back Love to Oour Family
Chinese New Year is perhaps the most busy time in a family. There's so much spring cleaning, things to be bought and other preparation of the house so that our home can be in tip top condition when our relatives visits. With so much work to be done at home, we could all help our parents. Doing our long overdue packing of our own room and chipping with housework is something that Mum would appreciate. :)

2) Be a Good Host
This is perhaps the time of the year where you have most visitors to your home. With most visitors we only see once a year, their impression that they have of us this season is going to last a long time. How we could be a good host? Perhaps when we notice a visitor that we are not really familiar alone at the corner of our house, we could take the step of faith to go forward to initiate the conversation with them so that they can feel comfortable at our home.

3) Honouring Elders
Again you don't meet your relatives everyday. Of course you need to honour our elders everyday but during Chinese New Year when we go for visitations, it is especially important that we honour and bless our elders in words. One way we can honour our elders is that we could make an effort to serve them. Instead of taking our food first we could ensure that our elders are served before we eat.

Anyway, enjoy your new year and happy holidays!

Long time since I last blogged. The reason being start school already so don't really have much time to blog. Anyway, actually in this post wanted to share this story about 4 candles. They are called Love, Peace, Joy and Hope. Its about how the flames of Love, Peace and Joy are being snuffed out but the candle of Hope relighted their flame. So that the 4 candles can continue to shine brightly. But I couldn't find the story on the internet. Hence I came up with this post on Hope. This has been in my head for awhile already and has been meditating on it so there you go, I call these Facts about Hope. I came up with all these on my own so maybe some you might or might not agree with me. Its alright.

Hope
Hope brings a smile to your face
Hope refreshes your spirit
Hope revives goals that was lost
Hope gives strength to the lost
Hope brings security
Hope destroy all fears
Hope precedes patience and patience reward
Hope brings joy to your soul
Hope held to the end never disappoints
Hope is believing in the things that are not yet seen
Hope brings a full reward in the manifestation of its fullness
Hope should be cling on to till the end
Hope is a cause to rejoice
Hope brings possibilities
Hope can change the world
Hope can bring joy to many others
Hope is a better word for you to feel right now than despair
Hope makes all things possible!

Well some people might agree or disagree with my findings. I just hope that this would inspire you to hope. I'm sure many atimes we will recall our disappointments and setbacks. By doing so we are like watching a bad movie staring ourself on a 42 inch high definition TV at the back of our minds. At the beginning of this year, let's not look to all the bad memories. Instead let's look to the bright year ahead that is only made possible through hope.

1st day of 2009, just as many people need to get used to the way of writing the dates, it would be the appropraite time to look to the year ahead. Actually wanted to look back at the past year but then thought I should not look back at past mistakes that cannot be undone, defeats, conflicts and victories. So here my targets for 2009:

Studies

Seems like I have finally entered into the final year of my studying life. Since thats the case, I need to end off with a BANG! Intend put in more effort for my studies so that I can be the best student that I can possibly be. Hope to be more discipline in my studies and place more focus on it. This would help me get a better GPA. Yup.

Family

Really learned alot about my family members through my dad's operation. For example, learned that my sister is more filial and loves my family dad, despite the hurtful past much much more than I thought . despite the hurtful past Here are some areas I am working on:

1) Build stronger bonds with my family
By being more patient with my family members and taking the extra effort by listening to them talk and talking to them. Perhaps should start by making more effort to visit my grandma more often.

2) To bear a better testimony at home
Through excellence in the things that I'm entrusted to do at home and good results in my studies.

3) Take up greater responsibility in my family
Can start by making an effort to do more housework

4) Salvation for my family
Hope that this year, I can help them to know God more and bring salvation to them!

Spiritually

Well, hope that this year would be another spiritual breakthrough year. Few weeks ago, I was asking myself why while most of my friends are occupied with things like managing their trading account or trying to secure a job in big firms, I spend most of my time sowing into the lives of my cell group members which are mainly teenagers from secondary school. Well, I concluded that the reason why thats the case is that there must be something that God needs me to learn that I haven't learn in the things I'm doing. So I should be faithful by focusing on the things that God placed in my life. Which is exactly my spritual target this year, to be of greater obedience to God and learn things God wants me to learn so that I am better equip to fulfill my purpose.

Relationship with Friends

As mentioned in my previous entry, I am really blessed to have great friends around me. This year, hope that I can be a better friend to my friends. Throughout the year, I might have neglected some friends through the deadly combination of busi-ness and lazi-ness. Really feel bad about that. So this year I will aspire to be a better friend to you. Haiz last year of school for me already. Hope that the good friends that found from my school life, would be able to stand firm through the test of time, business, distance and distractions.

These are mainly the targets and ambitions I have for the coming year. Despite all the bad reports that 2009 will shape up to be, I'm sure that 2009 would prove to be the best year yet for me! And it will be the same for you too :)
